Small annual herb from a taproot, minutely glandular-hairy throughout; stems erect, 2-15 cm tall, simple or more often freely branched.
Opposite, more or less unstalked, oblong to linear, 1-2 cm long, entire, blunt-tipped, obscurely 1- to 3-veined.
Inflorescence of several to many stalked flowers in the axils of the leaves, the stalks slender, 3-10 mm long; corollas tubular funnel-shaped, 5-8 mm long, pale pink to magenta or red, smooth on the outside, weakly 2-lipped, the 5 lobes subequal, spreading, with scattered hairs and yellow spots at the throat within, sometimes also with scattered red spots; calyces cylindric, 4-7 mm long, often reddish or red-spotted, 5-toothed, the teeth triangular and more or less equal; stamens 4, smooth.
Capsules, oblong, pointy-tipped, 4-7 mm long; seeds numerous, about 0.4 mm long.
