General:
Perennial, sending up erect, annual, deciduous fertile branches, 1-7 cm long.
Leaves:
Broadly lanceolate, 1-3 mm long, 0.5-0.8 mm wide, margins sparsely toothed along with pointed tips.
Cones:
Unstalked, cylindrical, 0.5-4 cm long, 4-6 mm wide; sporophylls loose and spreading, similar to the sterile leaves.

Habitat / Range

Wet meadows, fens, peat bogs or boggy lake shores in the lowland to montane zones; infrequent in BC, occurring mostly on the coast and in the Rocky Mountains; circumpolar, N to AK, YT and NT, E to NF and S to ME, MI, MN, CO, ID and NV; Eurasia.
