Search Boxes
Species Groups
In addition to simple species searches, you can conduct more complex searches on E-Flora BC. Use the search boxes above to call up all species in a family or genus, or use the radio buttons within the Species Groups box to call up special groups of species, such as red-listed species. You can select combinations of groups, such as only 'blue-listed' 'vascular plants' (click on blue-listed + vascular). Searches in these categories will produce a list of species and associated atlas pages. Before beginning a new search, reset the radio buttons in each group to 'all'. However, you can also conduct searches using our 'include thumbnails' feature. Clicking on the 'include thumbnails' box and then conducting a search for, say, 'orchidaceae' will call up a list of the orchid species/atlas pages along with thumbnail images of each species where these are available. Note that while most searches using the 'include thumbnail' feature download quickly, selecting for 'show thumbnails' + 'vascular plants' will significantly increase the display time because of the size of the vascular plant database and the number of thumbnail images to download. We recommend that you search instead for a family or genus, or other smaller group when working with vascular plants. If you wish to print a list of all of the plant species for BC (vascular plants, bryophytes), download the official list of plants from the BC Ministry of Forests and Range.
