Pleuroxus trigonellus is Holarctic in distribution (Smirnov 1996), with Chengalath (1980) reporting it from Newfoundland to Alberta. Chengalath (1987) listed the species as occurring in the Yukon Territory. In British Columbia, Carl (1940) reported it from Kawkawa Lake at Hope, and from Shumway and Trapp Lakes in the Nicola Valley. The species lives in vegetation (Smirnov 1974), in ponds, marshes, and the shallow zones of lakes (Chengalath 1980).
