General:
Annual herb from a slender taproot; stems prostrate, mat-forming, branched with each branch forked unequally, glabrous or slightly glandular-hairy, up to 20-50 cm long.
Leaves:
Basal leaves lacking; stem leaves whorled, 4-10 per whorl, linear-oblanceolate to egg-shaped, 5-30 mm long, 1-3 mm wide, narrowed to short stalks.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of axillary clusters of solitary flowers on slender stalks 3-10 mm long; petals lacking; sepals greenish-white, white on the inner surface, 3-veined, oblong, 1.5-2.5 mm long.
Fruits:
Capsules, egg-shaped, 3-4 mm long; seeds 0.5 mm long with narrow longitudinal ridges, dark reddish-brown, shiny.
