General:
Annual herb from a slender taproot; stems usually branched from leafy base, 4-35 cm tall, short-hairy with simple and 2-to 5-branched hairs.
Leaves:
Basal leaves oblanceolate to egg-shaped, entire or obscurely toothed, 6-30 mm long, 2-10 mm wide, short-stalked, with coarse, cross-shaped hairs; stem leaves mostly unstalked, reduced upward.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 1-several long, narrow, 1-sided clusters with well-spaced, inconspicuous flowers; petals white, 1-2 mm long, spoon-shaped, sometimes lacking; sepals about 1 mm long, dropping early.
Fruits:
Silicles, 2.0-2.5 mm wide, round, flattened parallel to the partition, often with 2 types of hairs, the larger hairs flat and hooked, the smaller hairs branched or lacking; styles 0.2-0.3 mm; stalks bent downward, 1-4 mm long; seeds 1, flat.
