General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems 0.3-1.0 m tall, simple or sometimes branched, conspicuously hairy at the base with simple and branched to starlike hairs, little branched and usually glabrous above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves few, soon deciduous; stem leaves lanceolate to oblanceolate, nearly entire, 2-8 cm long, short-stalked or unstalked, the tips sharp-pointed to long-pointed, upper leaves arrowhead-shaped with earlike lobes at the base, hairs similar to that of the stems.
Flowers:
In elongated, often compound racemes; flower stalks slender, ascending-spreading, 10-15 (17) mm long; petals white to pale yellow, 4-5 mm long; sepals about 3 mm long.
Fruits:
Silicles, egg-shaped, 4-7 (8) mm long, 3-5 mm wide, obtuse at tip; styles 2-2.5 mm long; seeds mostly 0.8-1 mm long, slightly longer than wide, plump, finely veined and honeycombed, reddish-brown.

Habitat / Range

Dry roadsides, fields and waste places in the steppe and montane zones; infrequent in SW, SC and NE BC; introduced from Eurasia.
