General:
Tufted perennial herb from a taproot and a branched stem-base, often clothed with dried remains of old leaves; stems 2-10 cm tall, hairy with simple and branched hairs.
Leaves:
All basal, egg-shaped to elliptic or oblanceolate, 5-12 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, hairy with long-stalked, starlike hairs on lower surface, long, simple and few-branched hairs on upper; stem leaves lacking.
Flowers:
Racemes short, 3- to 10-flowered; petals yellow, 4-5 mm long.
Fruits:
Silicles, 5-8 mm long, 3.5-5.5 mm wide, oval to egg-shaped, plane, glabrous to densely soft-hairy with simple and branched hairs; fruiting stalks almost as long as silicles; styles 0.6-1.2 mm long; seeds 10-16, 1.5-2 mm long.

Habitat / Range

Dry meadows, cliffs, rocky slopes and scree slopes in the subalpine and alpine zones; rare in the Coast-Cascade Mountains; N to AK and YT and S to N WA.
