General: Biennial or short-lived perennial herb from a short taproot and a usually unbranched stem-base; stems erect, 0.2-1.0 m tall, simple or branched, hairy throughout with appressed 2-pronged hairs.
Leaves: Basal leaves linear to linear-oblanceolate, entire or sparsely toothed, stalked, 1.5-8 cm long, 2-6 mm wide; stem leaves becoming reduced and unstalked upwards.
Flowers: Racemes bractless; flower stalks 3-8 mm long, ascending, stout; petals pale to bright yellow, 5-10 mm long, long narrow, stalklike base, broadly oblong to nearly orbicular blades 2-3 mm across; sepals erect, narrow, often purplish, 4-6 mm long, densely hairy.
Fruits: Siliques, 1.5-5 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, round in cross section, ascending to erect, densely hairy with 2-pronged hairs; beaks thick, 1-2 mm long; seeds oblong, 1.5-2 mm long, wingless.
Dry open sites in the steppe and montane zones; infrequent throughout BC east of the Coast-Cascade Mountains; N to AK, YT and NT, E to PQ and S to KS, NC, VT, NM and CA.
