General:
Small annual herb from a taproot, minutely glandular-hairy throughout; stems erect, 5-18 cm tall, simple or usually freely branched.
Leaves:
Opposite, short-stalked or sometimes unstalked, elliptic or diamond-shaped to broadly lanceolate, 0.5-2 cm long, entire or wavy-toothed, 3-veined from the base.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of few to several stalked flowers in the axils of the leaves, the stalks slender, 3-15 mm long, ascending in fruit; corollas tubular funnel-shaped, 4-7 mm long, pale yellow, spotted, hairy at the throat within, scarcely 2-lipped, the 5 lobes subequal, spreading, blunt to rounded; calyces tubular bell-shaped, 3-6 mm long in flower, to 7 mm and somewhat swollen in fruit, smooth to glandular-hairy, 5-toothed, the teeth triangular, more or less equal, and fringed with hairs; stamens 4, smooth.
Fruits:
Capsules, narrowly egg-shaped, pointy-tipped, 3-6 mm long; seeds numerous, 0.3-0.4 mm long.
