General:
Perennial herb from a taproot and a stout, branched stem-base; stems erect, few branched above, densely glandular, also with some stiff, translucent hairs; 20-80 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal leaves toothed; stem leaves alternate, oblong to lanceolate, stiff-hairy, toothed, the teeth regular and 1-2.5 mm long.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of solitary or a flat-topped cluster of heads, the heads 12-23 mm wide; rays yellow, 20-60; involucral bracts erect to reflexed, outer ones long, slender.
Fruits:
Achenes compressed, smooth to ridged, 4.5-5 mm long; pappus awns flat.

Habitat / Range

Dry sites in the lowland zone; rare on the Gulf Islands, known only from Lasqueti Island; disjunct S to CA.
