General:
Dwarf shrub, mat-forming; stems prostrate to decumbent, 5-15 cm long, minutely hairy.
Leaves:
Evergreen, alternate, spreading, linear- to lance-shaped, 2.5-5 mm long, upper surface flat, lower surface convex and somewhat keeled (not grooved), glabrous, margins often somewhat irregular; short-stalked.
Flowers:
Solitary and terminal, nodding; flower stalks stout, 3-10 mm long, finely hairy; corollas white or pinkish, broadly bell-shaped, 5-7 mm long, the lobes longer than tube; calyces reddish, oblong-egg-shaped, 3-3.5 mm long, irregularly finely-toothed; stamens broadened at the base.
Fruits:
Capsules, nearly globe-shaped, about 5 mm wide.

Habitat / Range

Moist to dry slopes and meadows in the subalpine and alpine zones; frequent in NW BC, rare in SW BC; amphiberingian, N to AK and SW YT, S to WA; E Siberia and Japan.
