General:
Perennial or sometimes annual herb from a fibrous root; stems erect, much branched above, glabrous, 10-75 cm tall.

Leaves:
Stem leaves lanceolate to elliptic or rounded, unstalked, obtuse to abruptly sharp-pointed, 3-5 nerved, 1-3 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm wide, partly clasping at the base, glabrous.

Flowers:
Inflorescence 20-100 flowered, spreading; petals orange-yellow, 1-2 mm long; sepals linear-oblong, abruptly sharp-pointed, 2-3 mm long; stamens less than 20; styles 3.

Fruits:
Membranous capsules, 2.5-4.0 mm long; seeds yellowish, 0.5 mm long, longitudinally grooved and finely transversely corrugate.
