General:
Perennial herb from a slender rhizome, with stolons; stems erect or ascending, to 60 cm tall, hollow, glabrous or hairy.
Leaves:
Alternate, pinnately compound; leaflets 5, the upper egg-shaped, 15-20 mm long, the basal pair stipule-like, egg-shaped; stipules represented by small dark glands.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a compact, stalked, axillary umbel of 7 to 12 pea-like flowers, the umbel-stalks to 15 cm long, with 3-parted bracts below the umbel; corollas yellow, 12-15 mm long; calyces about 7 mm long, the lance-triangular teeth slightly longer than the tube, usually fringed with long hairs.
Fruits:
Pods, linear-oblong, about 2.5 cm long, glabrous, not constricted between the seeds.
