General: Annual herb from a short taproot; stems several to many, ascending, 3-15 cm long, simple to forked; plants minutely-hairy with short, stiff, appressed hairs.
Leaves: Alternate, closely spaced at stem tips, linear to narrowly spoon-shaped, 5-25 mm long, 0.5-2 mm wide, entire; the lower branches nearly leafless.
Flowers: Inflorescence a short, crowded, erect spike; bracts linear; flowers unstalked; hypanthium 0.8- 2 mm long; petals lemon yellow, egg-shaped, 0.8-2.3 mm long; sepals 0.8-2 mm long, bent downward; stamens opposite petals; stigma globe-shaped.
Fruits: Capsules, ascending, narrowly spindle-shaped, 5-10 mm long, 1-1.3 mm wide, nearly straight, flat, fine grey-hairy, 4-chambered, walls somewhat swollen by seeds; seeds in 1 row per chamber, 0.7-1.3 mm long, smooth, glossy.
