General:
Tufted perennial herb or subshrub from a taproot; stems numerous, slender, ascending or loosely erect, hairy or glandular or glandular-hairy, 5-15 cm tall.
Leaves:
Opposite, firm, linear, 5-13 mm long, 0.5 mm wide, rigidly sharp-pointed at the tip, often inconspicuously fringed with short hairs towards the base.
Flowers:
Inflorescence usually of single, short-stalked or stalkless flowers at the ends of the branches; corollas white to pink, pale blue or mauve, the tube 8-14 mm long, spreading to five wide lobes 7-10 mm long; calyces usually glandular, the 5 teeth narrow, thickened.
Fruits:
Capsules, ellipsoid, 3-chambered, few-seeded. vol4_2

Habitat / Range

Dry slopes and forest openings in the steppe and montane zones; locally frequent in SE BC; S to N MT, N ID and N OR.
