General: Perennial herb from a simple to branched stem-base; stems erect, several, simple, hairy, more or less glandular above, 10-60 cm tall.
Leaves: Leaves mostly basal, linear-lanceolate to spoon-shaped, 3-8 cm long, 4-10 mm wide, long-stalked; stem leaves opposite, usually 2-3 pairs, not greatly reduced though narrower than the basal leaves; stipules lacking.
Flowers: Inflorescence of usually 3-7 flowers in a rather short, narrow cluster, the lateral clusters usually reduced to a single flower; petals 5, white or greenish- or purplish-tinged, stalklike at the bases, the stalks about 11 mm long, the blades 3-5 mm long, 2-cleft nearly to midlength, with prominent lateral teeth on each blade lobe, sometimes the blade nearly equally 4-lobed; sepals 5, united, forming a glandular-hairy tube 10-20 mm long, with 10 prominent greenish or purplish nerves.
