General:
Perennial herb from a rhizome, with stolons; stems almost lacking, smooth, 5-15 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal leaves lanceolate to elliptic, toothed, smooth, the blades 3-6 cm long, 0.5-1.5 cm wide, bases wedge-shaped, the stalks reddish, equal to the leaves; stipules linear-lanceolate, 1 cm long, slender toothed.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of single, axillary flowers; petals 5, white, the lower petal 8-11 mm long including the 1- to 2-mm long spur; the lower 3 purple-pencilled, the lateral pair not bearded; sepals 5, lanceolate; style heads smooth.
Fruits:
Capsules, elliptic, smooth, 6-8 mm long; seeds brown.

Habitat / Range

Moist woodlands and peaty fields in the lowland zone; rare in SW BC, known only from Lulu Island; introduced from E North America.
