General:
Perennial herb from long creeping rhizomes; stems slightly compressed, 20-60 cm long.
Leaves:
Mostly basal but 1 to 3 from the lower parts of the stem, flat, soft, 1.5-3 mm wide, 10-30 cm long, lacking cross-walls.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 1 to 5 heads at the top of the stem, each of them with 3 to 10 flowers, the flowers lacking involucral bractlets; perianth segments pale brown with green midribs, largely translucent-margined, 5-6 mm long, lanceolate, the outer segments slightly shorter than the inner ones; stamens 6, anthers 1.2-2 mm long, longer than the filaments; involucral bract shorter than the inflorescence.
Fruits:
Capsules, cylindrical to egg-shaped, notched, shorter than the perianth; seeds lopsided egg-shaped, 0.4-0.6 mm long, tail-like appendages lacking.
