Species Information

General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems erect, nearly hairless to fine glandular-hairy, with numerous, ascending, simple branches, 10-60 cm tall.
Leaves:
All along the stem, alternate, reduced upwards, some lower leaves 3-cleft into narrow segments, the other leaves entire, linear, 2-4 cm long, 1 mm wide.
Flowers:
Inflorescence an open, leafy, terminal, panicle-like cluster of several stalked flowers; corollas white to pale-blue, 4-7 mm long, the tube twice as long as the 5 blunt to sharp-pointed lobes; calyces 2.5-4 mm long, the 5 lobes minutely spine-tipped.
Fruits:
Capsules, 3-chambered, 3-4 mm long; seeds 1 per chamber, 2.5-3.5 mm long, dark, becoming sticky when moistened.
