General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems 1 to several, trailing to decumbent or erect, sparsely hairy, 10-50 cm long.
Leaves:
Alternate, somewhat pinnately compound; leaflets 3, egg- to heart-shaped, 5-15 mm long, shallowly toothed on the upper half, glabrous; stipules egg-shaped, 3-5 mm long, the free tips long-pointed, the margins entire to remotely toothed.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a dense, globe-shaped, short-stalked, axillary head of 3 to 20 drooping, pea-like flowers, the heads 6-8 mm wide and lacking an involucre; corollas yellow turning brown, 3-3.5 mm long, the banner hood-like, folded over the pod, longer than the wings and keel; calyces 1/2 as long as the corollas, glabrous, 5-veined, the teeth lanceolate, the upper pair wider but less than 1/2 as long as the lower three.
Fruits:
Pods, egg-shaped, enclosed by the persistent corolla; seeds 1.
