General:
Diffuse shrub to 60 cm tall; stems twisted, bent, reclining or ascending, branched.
Leaves:
Opposite, evergreen, lance-oblong to linear, 2-4 mm long, glabrous or variously hairy, entire, margins strongly rolled under, making the leaf three-angled, 2 short pointed projections at base; unstalked; leaves of the main stems distant, those of short shoots densely overlapping in 4 rows.
Flowers:
Solitary, in leaf axils, forming a raceme- or panicle-like inflorescence 3-15 cm long, each flower with calyx-like involucre of 4 egg-shaped bracteoles; calyces egg-shaped to oblong, about 4 mm long, somewhat scarious, pale purple.
Fruits:
Capsules, globe-shaped, 2-2.5 mm long.
