Species Information

General:
Tufted perennial herb from a taproot and a simple or branched stem-base; stems branched, erect, 6-20 cm tall, starlike-hairy, mixed with simple or branched hairs.
Leaves:
Basal leaves oblanceolate, 0.5-3 cm long, 2-6 mm wide, entire or toothed; stem leaves lacking or 1-4 (5), lanceolate to egg-shaped, entire or toothed, 0.3-1.5 cm long, 0.1-0.7 cm wide; hairy with overlapping starlike hairs or nearly glabrous.
Flowers:
Racemes several- to many-flowered, sometimes with solitary flowers in upper leaf axils; stalks 3-8 mm long (or more), spreading to semi-erect, hairy; petals white to cream, notched at the tips, 3-4 mm long; sepals 1.8-2.2 mm long, hairy.
Fruits:
Silicles, 6-8 mm long, 2-2.5 mm wide, lanceolate to oblong, narrowed equally at base and apex, flat; often densely hairy, mainly with short-stalked crosslike or starlike hairs; fruiting racemes occupying the top third of the stems; styles 0.3-0.8 mm long.

Mesic to dry meadows and cliffs in the alpine zone; rare in BC north of 53degree N; circumpolar, N to AK, YT and NT and E to N PQ; Eurasia.
