Eleocharis atropurpurea was previously reported for BC in the South Okanagan. However, during survey work in the region in 2008, plants found in the same general location--as well as previous specimens--were thought instead to be Eleocharis geniculata. A COSEWIC status report on E. geniculata was prepared. Read the report.
However, further examination of specimens since then has led to the conclusion that they are in fact a new, undescribed species, and not E. geniculata. Botanists from BC and Ontario are studying them. Once this work is complete, the new species will be added to E-Flora BC, and E. geniculata will be removed. |
