Species Information

General:
Perennial or biennial herb from taproot and branched or unbranched stem-base; stems simple, 3-35 cm tall, hairy.
Leaves:
Basal leaves in a rosette, linear-lanceolate, 5-7 cm long, blades entire or shallowly toothed, 1-6 cm long, 2-4 mm wide; stalks narrow.
Flowers:
Inflorescence racemose, flowers numerous, often with 1 to few bracts, each subtending one of the lower flowers, very short when flowering, greatly elongating in fruit; flower stalks 5-28 mm long, ascending to erect; petals pink to pink-purple, 10-16 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, claw about 5-8 mm long; sepals papery-margined, purplish, 5-8 mm long.
Fruits:
Siliques, stiffly erect, dark purple, 3-10 cm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, somewhat curved, distinctly compressed parallel to the septum; beaks (1) 1.5-3 mm long; seeds 2 mm long.

Habitat and Range

Dry talus slopes in the alpine zone; rare in NW BC, known only from Mt. Edziza; circumpolar, N to AK, YT and NT, Eurasia.
