General:
Perennial herb from a well-developed, shallow rhizome, more or less white-hairy but not sticky-slimy throughout; stems ascending, 10-40 cm tall.

Leaves:
Opposite, egg-shaped, short-stalked becoming nearly unstalked upward, 1-7 cm long, coarse-toothed, pinnately veined, reduced in the inflorescence.

Flowers:
Inflorescence a loose, terminal raceme of few to several, long-stalked flowers in the axils of the upper leaves, the stalks 2-5 cm long; corollas tubular, funnel-shaped, yellow often with red dots in the flaring throat, 2.5-4 cm long, strongly 2-lipped; calyces spreading-hairy on the ribs, 8-17 mm long, more or less equally 5-toothed, the teeth fringed with long hairs; stamens 4.

Fruits:
Capsules, 8-9 mm long; seeds numerous.
