Species Information

Summary:
Galerina pallidispora is distinguished by a russet cap, a one-colored stem, pale spores, no pleurocystidia, and small cheilocystidia many with capitate tops, (Smith). The description is derived from Smith(2).
Gills:
"bluntly adnate, close, moderately broad"; ochraceous tawny; edges even
Stem:
3-4cm x 0.2-0.3cm, equal or slightly widened downward, colored as cap and fading like it, not darkening when old or on drying; pruinose in upper part, bald in lower part except for mycelium around base
Microscopic spores:
spores 9-13 x 5-6.5 microns, narrowly ovate to suboblong in face view, subinequilateral to nearly oblong in side view, pale ochraceous in KOH, smooth to minutely punctate, plage very faintly delimited, apical callus minute; basidia 2-spored, rarely 1-spored basidia seen, 24-28 x 6-7.5 microns, colorless; pleurocystidia none seen, cheilocystidia 24-32 x 6-9 x 1.5-2 x 2.5-3 microns, often curved and with ventricose part one-sided, thin-walled, colorless; gill trama parallel or nearly so, tawny to yellow in KOH; subhymenium not distinctive; cap trama homogeneous; clamp connections present

Notes:
The holotype of Galerina pallidispora was found in Olympic National Park in WA, (Smith). There are BC collections at the University of British Columbia.
