Excluded in IFBC Vol 1 under Helianthus laetiflorus Pers. var. laetiflorus: “Apparently this name has been misapplied to species of H. rigidus (Cass.) Desf. ssp. subrhomboideus (Rydb.) Heiser.” It seems preferable to interpret H. x laetiflorus as hybrids and backcrosses of H. tuberosus and H. pauciflorus (H. rigidus ssp. subrhomboideus). Such plants are often grown in gardens and rarely escape onto roadsides and soil dumps (Lomer 6792 @ UBC).
