General:
Perennial herb from a slender rhizome with tuberous thickenings; stems 5-10 cm tall.
Leaves:
Simple in a basal rosette, spreading or ascending, blades linear-oblong, 1-7 cm long, upper surface hairy or glabrous, margins fringed with long hairs.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 1-8 solitary, saucer-shaped flowers on stalks 1-10 cm long; corollas white to purplish, 1.5-3 cm wide, the lobes glabrous, 2-4 times as long as the hairy tube.
Fruits:
Capsules, egg-shaped, honeycombed or pitted; seeds many, egg-shaped.
