Species Information

Summary:
Features include a minute brownish yellow, smooth cup with a yellowish interior, a short stem, scattered growth on bark of fallen willow branches, and microscopic characters. Fuckel regards this species as a variety of Helotium virgultorum (here considered as Hymenoscyphus virgultorum).
Microscopic:
spores 25-30 x 5-7 microns, "fusoid, with the ends acute, straight or curved, usually containing one or two oil-drops, becoming spuriously 1-3-septate"; asci 8-spored, reaching a length of 75-100 microns and a width of 12-25 microns, clavate; paraphyses filiform, reaching a width of 2 microns, (Seaver)
Notes:
Hymenoscyphus salicellus is found in OR as well as Europe, (Seaver). There are two collections from BC at the University of British Columbia.
