General:
Perennial herb from a rhizome; stems climbing, 60-200 cm long, broadly winged, glabrous.
Leaves:
Alternate, pinnately compound with 2 leaflets; leaflets lanceolate to lance-elliptic, 5-12 cm long; tendrils well developed, branched; stipules 2-lobed, linear-lanceolate, 1-3 cm long.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a long-stalked, axillary cluster of 4 to 9 pea-like flowers; corollas muddy- to rose-pink, about 15 mm long, the banner-claw shorter than the blade; calyces 7-9 mm long, the teeth lance-triangular, shorter than the tube.
Fruits:
Pods, 4-6 cm long, 4-6 mm wide, glabrous; seeds 10 to 20.
