Species Information

General:
Annual herb from a slender taproot; stems erect, simple or branched above, 25-70 cm tall, sometimes hairy below, usually glabrous above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves commonly deciduous by flowering time; stem leaves pinnately cut and mostly somewhat dissected, the middle and upper ones not clasping.
Flowers:
Racemes elongate, spikelike; petals white, about 3 mm long.
Fruits:
Silicles, oblong egg-shaped, 5-6 mm long, about 4 mm wide, glabrous, margins somewhat winged and upturned, slightly notched on strongly ascending to appressed stalks; stalks shorter than silicles, nearly round in cross section to slightly flattened; sinuses 0.2-0.4 mm deep; beaks slightly shorter than the sinus margins.

Habitat and Range

Dry to mesic roadsides and waste places; rare in SE BC and on S Vancouver Island; introduced from Eurasia.
