Species Information
General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems slender, often branched, hairless or minutely hairy in part, 5-20 cm tall.
Leaves:
Opposite, unstalked, palmately cleft into 3 to 7 soft, thread-like segments 5-15 mm long, or the uppermost leaves entire, the segments fringed with bristly hairs; leaves of the inflorescence longer than those below and more densely fringed.
Fruits:
Capsules, 3-chambered; seeds 1 per chamber, swelling and becoming sticky when moistened.

Habitat and Range
Dry meadows, grasslands and forest openings in the steppe to subalpine zones; rare in SC and SE BC, known recently only from Idaho Peak, Slocan Valley; S to ID, NV and CA.Status Information

Similar Species
Leptoshiphon harknessii is similar to Leptosiphon septentrionalis, which is more widespread in B.C., but differs in having a smaller, white corolla and glabrous anther filaments (Bjork, 2008).
