Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a branched root-crown; stems several, erect, 45-60 (90) cm tall, unbranched, hollow-cylindrical near the base, glabrous to sparsely appressed-hairy.
Leaves:
Basal and alternate along the stem, palmately compound with 7 to 11 leaflets; leaflets oblanceolate, rounded but abruptly pointed at the tip, glabrous above, sparsely hairy below, 4-10 cm long, 12-20 mm wide.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a dense, terminal, stalked raceme 20 cm or more in length, of whorled pea-like flowers; corollas blue, about 10 mm long, the banner glabrous with a white to yellowish centre, the keel occasionally fringed with hairs along the upper edges; calyces 2-lipped, the upper lip 4-5 mm long, 2-toothed, the lower lip 5-7 mm long, entire.
Fruits:
Pods, 3-5 cm long, densely woolly; seeds 4 to 8.
