Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a deep root; stems erect or ascending, usually several, 20-100 cm long, densely hairy to nearly glabrous, always hairy near the nodes and glandular-hairy in inflorescence.
Leaves:
Opposite, lance- to lance-egg-shaped or oblong, to 7 cm long, wedge- to somewhat heart-shaped at base, densely hairy to sticky finely hairy to almost glabrous with age, sessile to short-stalked.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of umbels grouped in branched clusters, bracts of inflorescence sticky-hairy; perianth pinkish, 8-10 mm long, broadly funnel-shaped with widely-flaring 5-lobed limb.
Fruits:
Achenes, broadly club-shaped, 4-5 mm long, 5-angled, wrinkled or creased surface, densely hairy.

Habitat and Range

Dry disturbed areas, streambeds and shrublands in the steppe zone; infrequent in S BC east of the Coast-Cascade Mountains; E to MB and S to AZ, TX and MO.
