Species Information
General:
Evergreen perennial arising from a short, stout rhizome.
Leaves:
Lanceolate, 10-40 cm long, 3-7 cm wide, 2-pinnate, with short stipes; pinnae egg-shaped, with rounded pinnules, the ultimate segments entire or weakly toothed.

Habitat and Range
Dry to mesic, ultramafic rock outcrops in the montane zone; rare in BC, known only from the Mt. Baldy area; S to ID and CA.Status Information

Similar Species
Polystichum scopulinum and Polystichum kruckebergii are related, morphologically similar taxa to P. lemmonii which occupy similar ultramafic habitats. Polystichum lemmonii may be distinguished from these taxa by bearing truly bipinnate fronds and by an absence of spines or awns on the teeth of the margins of the pinnae (Ceska 2000; Douglas 2003).
