Introduction

“Cultivated in British Columbia, but not naturalized.” (Douglas et al. 2000).

Author: Frank Lomer, Honourary Research Associate, University of British Columbia Herbarium

Taxonomic Notes

This large, eastern North American poplar grows from Quebec and Ontario southward and west to extreme southeastern Saskatchewan, and ia very rarely cultivated. The large, broad leaves have very prominent rounded teeth, which give it both the scientific and the common names....bark is smooth and pale grey-green on young trees resembling that of the Quaking Aspen but it becomes dark grey and furrowed on old trunks". (Straley 1992).
