General:
Dwarf perennial herb from a branched stem-base covered with shiny brown remains of leaf-bases; stems densely tufted, ascending to erect, 4-15 cm tall.
Leaves:
All basal, several, long-stalked, palmately compound, 2-7 cm long; leaflets 3, oval in outline, 8-17 mm long, deeply divided to the base into 2 or 3 linear segments, green and sparsely long-hairy above, paler and sparsely hairy to nearly smooth beneath, the margins rolled under.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of 1 to 3 stalked terminal flowers; corollas yellow, saucer-shaped, the petals 5, heart-shaped, 5-10 mm long, notched at the tip; calyces often somewhat long-hairy, 5-lobed, the lobes narrowly egg-shaped, 3.5-6 mm long, alternating with 5 oblong bractlets about as long as the sepals; ovaries superior; stamens 20.
Fruits:
Achenes, numerous, clustered, lopsided-egg-shaped, 1.5-2 mm long.
