General:
Perennial herb from fibrous roots; stems 1 to several, erect, 10-25 cm tall, usually long soft-hairy when young, becoming nearly smooth.

Leaves:
Basal leaves persistent, egg- to diamond-shaped, undivided, 1-5 cm long, 1-3.5 cm wide, shallowly round-toothed, tips rounded, bases wedge-shaped and entire, the stalks long; stem leaves unstalked or nearly so, fan-shaped and divided nearly to base into 3 to 5 linear to lanceolate segments.

Flowers:
Inflorescence a 3- to 12-flowered cyme; flower stalks long soft-hairy; receptacle long soft-hairy; petals 5, distinct, yellow, 6-8 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, egg-shaped, nectary on upper surface, the scale smooth; sepals 5, spreading to bent back, 4-6 mm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, long soft-hairy; stamens about 50; pistils 40-50.

Fruits:
Achenes, numerous in a nearly globe-shaped head 4-6 mm long, 5-7 mm wide, the achenes egg-shaped, 1.8-2.2 mm long, 1.2-1.8 mm wide, smooth; beaks slender, 0.2-0.3 mm long, curved.
