Species Information

General:
Annual or biennial herb from a branched taproot; stems erect, branched above, smooth, 30-100 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal leaves reduced; stem leaves alternate, 6-10 cm long, uniformly pinnatifid from the base of the blade with 8-22, paired, linear-elliptic segments, margins minutely toothed and papery, smooth.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a terminal, spike-like raceme of numerous short-stalked flowers; petals 5-6, whitish to greenish-white, 4-6 mm long, shallowly to deeply 3-lobed, the central lobe narrower than the outer ones; sepals 5-6, 1/2 the length of the corolla; stamens 11-13.
Fruits:
Capsules, oblong, 10-13 mm long; seeds kidney-shaped, 1.2-1.4 mm long, finely pimpled, dull.

Habitat and Range

Mesic to dry fields and waste places; rare in SW BC; introduced from Eurasia.
