Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a taproot; stems erect, 10-60 cm tall, branching.
Leaves:
Basal and lower stem leaves pinnately divided, toothed or with a winged and toothed leaf axis, the stalks sharply toothed, the blades 4-13 cm long, 3-12 cm wide.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of several to many compact headlike umbels; flowers purple; involucel inconspicuous, of 6-8 lanceolate bractlets.
Fruits:
Egg-shaped to subglobose, 3-6 mm long, covered with stout, hooked prickles.
