Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from branched stem-bases, matted; stems numerous, ascending to erect, the flowering stems 5-14 cm tall, glandular-hairy, at least above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves narrowly oblong to linear, 5-15 mm long, 1 mm wide, fleshy, smooth or sparsely fringed, spine-tipped, unstalked; stem leaves alternate, similar to the basal, to 2 mm wide.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a terminal, few-flowered cluster with several bracts; petals yellow, some with orange spots, linear-oblong, 4-6 mm long; calyces joined to ovary for about 1 mm, the free hypanthium absent, the calyx lobes 5, triangular egg-shaped, 3-4 mm long, spreading, greenish; stamens 10 (11-12).
Fruits:
Capsules, 4-6 mm long; seeds wrinkled.
