General:
Perennial herb from a freely branched stem-base and fibrous roots; flowering stems erect, 5-25 cm tall, brownish- or yellowish-hairy, at least above.
Leaves:
Basal leaves in a rosette, linear-oblanceolate to spoon-shaped, 1-4 cm long, 1-3 mm wide, smooth or nearly so; stem leaves 3 to 7, unstalked, smaller above.
Flowers:
Inflorescence usually of a single, terminal flower, nodding at first; petals bright yellow, 7-15 mm long, 5- to 7-veined; calyx lobes egg-shaped to lanceolate, 3-5 mm long, greenish to reddish, often glandular-hairy, fringed, spreading; stamens 10.
Fruits:
Capsules, 7-12 mm long.
