Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a short rhizome or branching woody stem-base; stems erect, solitary, branched above, long-hairy, at least in the inflorescence, 5-50 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal and lower stem leaves oblanceolate or spoon-shaped, toothed or sometimes entire, 2-10 cm long, 5-18 mm wide, conspicuously hairy-margined, at least along the stalks, otherwise glabrous; stem leaves similar, the middle and upper ones reduced and becoming unstalked.
Fruits:
Achenes short-hairy; pappus of numerous white hairlike bristles.
