General:
Annual herb from a taproot; stems prostrate, hairy, mat-forming, the mats up to 100 cm wide, freely branching.
Leaves:
Stem leaves opposite, pinnately lobed with 4-8 pairs of leaflets, the leaflets egg-shaped, 5-15 mm long; stipules 1-2 mm long.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of short-stalked, single, axillary flowers; petals 5, yellow, 3-5 mm long; sepals 5.
Fruits:
Schizocarps, of 5 nutlike segments, the segments horny, 2-spined, the spines 2-6 mm long; fruit segments 2-4 seeded. vol5_7 PTERIDOPHYTES10
