Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a shallow rhizome; stems erect or decumbent at the base; 10-30 cm tall, simple, long wavy-hairy, also glandular in the inflorescence.
Leaves:
Opposite, unstalked, elliptic to lanceolate, 1-4 cm long, entire to blunt-toothed, smooth to long-wavy-hairy.
Flowers:
Inflorescence a terminal bracted raceme, at first compact then elongating, of several stalked flowers; corollas violet-purple to light blue, saucer-shaped, 6-10 mm across, irregularly 4-lobed, the lobes much longer than the short tube, the upper lobe largest, the lowest lobe narrower than the others; calyces glandular-hairy, deeply 4-lobed, the lobes lanceolate, 3-6 mm long; styles short, 1-3 mm long; stamens 2, exerted, the filaments 1-1.5 mm long.
Fruits:
Capsules, 4-7 mm long, flattened, heart-shaped, longer than wide, notched at the tip, glandular-hairy; seeds numerous, flat, about 1 mm long.
