Parasitic on Cystoderma amianthinum (the lower yellow part of the stipe is in fact a remnant of the host). This is the first record in Canada. The fungus was described from Mt. Hood, OR (as "Cystoderma paradoxum") and in North America it was also reported from Priest Lake, Idaho.
