Notes
This plant was discovered by Thaddeus Haenke in 1792 (as part of the Malaspina expedition). Haenke thought it distinct enough from H. americana (Mociño didn't) to name it Heuchera barbarosa. The Bohemian polymath (and the first PhD to set eyes on the coast of BC) was well qualified to make this statement as he had translated Linneus Species Plantarum into Austrian whilst working for von Jacquin in Vienna. However, a huge delay (approximately 40 years) in getting it published meant that authorship fell to the energetic David Douglas.
