Notes This is the isidiate form of Platismatia glauca. Isidia are warty protrusions (seen here along the lobe margins) containing algal cells and fungal hyphae and are covered by a denser outer layer of hyphae called the cortex. They are essentially miniature replicas of the thallus proper which break off and become established on a suitable substrate as a new lichens. Another common form of Platimatia glauca produces soredia rather than isidia which perform the same purpose. Soredia lack a cortex and
