Notes Terry Taylor has examined this both from spore prints and microscopically and concludes that it is Lentinellus ursinus because: It has serrate gills; There are dense, short, erect, dark brown hairs on upper surface near attachment; It produces white spores, 4 microns, almost round, with one large oildrop; Grows in sessile clusters with gills radiating from point of attachment; Is growing on western hemlock log; Tastes peppery (very peppery!).
